So many things have been said on the kidnapping  of the school girls in Nigeria! I just would like to share this part of a an internal post.

It is truly shocking that while we are making significant efforts to ensure the right to education for all children, especially girls, negative forces continue to manoeuvre in ways aimed at  bringing us back to the dark ages, to a situation where girls and women are deprived of their right to full citizenship.

Why are they doing that?
Why do they want to deny the girls their right to education?

Because more than any other, education is an enabling right! If you get a good education, you are empowered enough to access other rights, and these kind of criminals know the power that education and knowledge have on girls and women in patriarchal societies where women and girls are at risk despite international, regional and national commitments to ensure their protection; where governments are unable to protect their citizens!

The kidnapping of over 200 school girls within school settings where they are supposed to be protected, is also the proof that where there is no accountability, no transparency, no governance, where the state collapses and abandons all its responsibility to protect the citizens, children, especially girls and women become more and more vulnerable. Sad indeed!

These are indeed sad days for girls’ right to education! It is clear that there is a strong need to remain committed to ensuring education for all everywhere, especially in Nigeria. This should be part of the solution!
A bon entendeur, Salut
